Ask for Help!
If you are feeling a shift in your mood, or feel old symptoms that remind you or that you know are indicative of an emotional and very debilitating time, say when your behavior changed so radically that your support system, friends and family told you that they noticed you were not doing well and were concerned. Maybe you were in bed / hiding out in your home and isolating. If any symptoms begin to arise that feel reminiscent of very tough times, odd or different and yet remind you, and, you want to avoid possibly spiraling down then you must not ignore it and say I will see how I am tomorrow. The action plan must start now! Tell someone that can rally a support system that either needs to be in place or is in place after a previous difficult span of time. Now is the time to take action and get clear about the steps that you must take to help avoid or minimize spiraling down into a dark depression, or a manic episode, and or swept into psychotic behavior where you feel that you have no control. Take control now and ask for Help! So that your team can be available should you not be able to manage further for yourself.
So, if you begin to feel caught and stuck in what seems to be trying to take hold then permit people to help you. Family and professional persons in Mental Health, such as a psychiatrist, case manager or if you participate in a program then tell staff, family doctor, friends…… share what is going on and tell them you need them to help you with providing a reality check as you need their support to do whatever it takes to move back into the right direction. You might not be able to avert the depression or other symptoms to feel well enough to take the steps therefore, you ask for help and that this help rally’s behind you to insure that you take each action that will move you back to better mental health… stability. Asking for help together with having a daily routine for wellness are crucial for your health and happiness. More on the topic of having a daily routine for wellness in the next blog.
